I just visited the National Weather Services long range forecast web page. They are currently predicting a Normal winter this year. It also suggests a late spring. Winter can be long and in the best of times. Spring is often so slow to come in Central Oregon. Once again, I suggest think spring bulbs. Daffodils, crocus, etc tell us it will get warmer someday soon. Bulbs are in the garden centers now, let me know if I can help you. I have already planted a few bulbs for customers this season. Better to get them in the ground early while selection is good.

I will be receiving my order of garlic at the end of September. I have been having fun planting garlic in landscapes last season and will continue to do that this season. Garlic is a small plant that does not take up much space in garden. It is fun to know that it came from your own garden.

The past two winters I have been growing my own greens in my basement grow room. Each morning I pick enough greens for that night salads. It can be done quite easily with a heating pad, few flats and a florescent light fixture. For the two of us I grow two flats sowing one each month throughout the winter and spring. This season I am trying micro greens. micro greens are mustard plants that are harvest at about 2 inches tall to add a little spice to my winter salads. Much like sprouts.

Remember fall is one of the best seasons in Central Oregon, cool nights and warm days. Get out end enjoy while you can.
